When it comes to health care and your child, imagine if…
CHEO asked the community to finish this statement and received thousands of responses from families, staff and service providers from across the region. This was one of many questions asked in an eight month strategic review – the most comprehensive review in the hospital’s history.
The review examined CHEO’s strengths and areas for improvement, community needs, demographic trends, shifting political and fiscal landscape, usage data, clinical trends and trends in the broader health system.
The result is CHEOnext – our plan for CHEO’s future, which is unveiled June 8th in a special microsite.
CHEOnext is how we’ll help kids and families be their healthiest. And it is how we’ll best equip our organization as we move forward into our fifth decade.
In the last 10 years, CHEO has nearly doubled its revenue and the number of physicians, added two new wings and half a dozen major provincial or regional programs, and quadrupled our research infrastructure. CHEO has reached critical mass and is poised on an interesting tipping point – still small enough to care, but big enough to really matter.
CHEO’s next 10 years will be marked by a very different kind of journey. It won’t be about growing bigger, but about focus and impact:
Focus: CHEO will help more kids, we’ll better connect care inside and beyond the hospital, and we’ll improve the patient experience
Impact: Our care will change young lives in our community; our innovation can change young lives around the world.
There will be 70,000 more children and youth in our region in 20 years than there are today. The need for our services will continue to grow and, in the context of an aging society, we will have a more crucial role than ever. It is our young patients who will be tomorrow's parents, workers, taxpayers and innovators. Their success will be our community's success.
CHEO has always valued the special relationship it has with the community, and we invite you to join us on this new journey. This year we have set the course. Together we can re-imagine health care for our children and our community. Tomorrow starts here.
