PR Volunteer Positions

Help us make a difference in the life of a child, youth or family!

   

Multimedia Intern

CHEO is seeking a student intern with experience shooting and editing videos to join our Communications Team for the summer. This is a volunteer position, but can provide good resume building experience and help a student build out his/her professional portfolio.  

The student would work 8 - 12 hours per week -- either at home, from school, or at the CHEO office. He/she would be responsible for creating informative and fun videos for the CHEO website and You Tube channel -- providing parents and kids in the community with a reliable source of trusted health information.  

As the student would be responsible for shooting as well as editing, at least some of the work would need to be done on the CHEO campus.  

Specific duties:

• Using a Flip video© cam recorder or Kodak Zi8, film appropriate visual to be used for video story board

• Working with CHEO staff, research, write and edit video scripts

• Create accompanying story boards, video time lines, visuals and creative design

• Edit videos using Adobe Premier Pro editing software, or similar.

We are looking for a student who can commit to a volunteer internship position from September through April. Parking and a small honorarium would be provided.

 

Social Media Specialist

CHEO is seeking a student intern with experience in social media to join our Communications Team for the summer. This is a volunteer position, but can provide good resume building experience and help a student build out his/her professional portfolio.

The student would work 8 - 12 hours per week -- either at home, from school, or at the CHEO office.

Duties include:

--Help with the management of CHEO's social media communities

--Monitor for CHEO references on social media channels

--Measure CHEO's progress

--Assist with campaigns and research.

The ideal student would:

--Be currently enrolled in the Public Relations program or the Social Media Certificate program

--Have experience with, and knowledge of, social media sites and measurement tools

--Be a strong written communicator in English. Have some familiarity with French.

--Be able to work at the CHEO office 3 - 4 hours a week, and then work from home for 1- 2 hours a day for the rest of the work week.

We are looking for a student who can commit to a volunteer internship position for the summer. Parking and a small honorarium would be provided.

 

Webmaster Intern

CHEO is seeking a student intern with experience using content management sytems to design and/or update web pages. This is a volunteer position, but can provide good resume building experience and help a student build out his/her professional portfolio.

He/she would be responsible for creating and updating CHEO webpages -- helping to provide the community with a reliable source of health information.

The ideal student would:

 --Be currently enrolled in a related computer or marketing program

--Have experience with, and knowledge of, content management systems that use a standard WYSIWYG editor.

--Have an understanding of SEO principles and their application

--Show sound judgment in regards to web navigational flow

--Be interested in using this internship as a resume-building experience towards a job as a webmaster or marketing generalist.

The student would work 8 - 12 hours per week -- either at home, from school, or at the CHEO office. Initially, at least some of the work will need to be done at the CHEO office in order to become familiar with the CMS. We are looking for a student who can commit to a volunteer internship position for the summer. Parking and a small honorarium would be provided.

 

Marketing Communications Intern

CHEO is seeking a student with excellent written communications skills for an internship position during the summer 2012. This is a volunteer position, but can provide good resume building experience and help a student build out his/her professional portfolio.

The student would work 8 hours per week, including at least a half day in the office. To accommodate class schedules, the other half day could be in the office or from home or school.

Duties include:

  • Writing and editing of CHEO Chatter, bi-weekly staff eNewsletter
  • Writing and editing of Families First, quarterly eNewsletter for patients, families and the community.
  • Writing and editing of press releases and other corporate documents
  • Writing and editing of patient stories, helping CHEO better share its story with the community.

The ideal student would:

  • Be currently enrolled in Journalism or Mass Communications program, or in a general arts program with a focus on writing.
  • Have experience with Microsoft Office
  • Have superior English writing skills.
  • Be comfortable working independently

We are looking for a student who can commit to a volunteer internship position for the summer period. Parking and a small honorarium would be provided. This is a great, hands-on internship position for a student looking for resume-building experience for a future position in public relations or marketing
