My name is Stéphanie Mallet-Côté and I'm 23 years old. I was born November 24, 1992. I want to say a HUGE thank you to all of the doctors, nurses and the entire team who took care of me during my first seventeen years of life.
First, I want to say thank you to Dr. Vassilyadi – you have no idea how grateful I am for you. I remember in February of 2007 when you took the time to return to the hospital after midnight to check on me when I had complications from back surgery. I remember that night very well and I will never forget it.
Thank you to Dr. Lawton from the Spina-Bifida department. Dr. Lawton, you are the only one at CHEO who can say "I saw her grow up!". You were the one who was there during my first surgery shortly after I was born. Sorry if it doesn't make you feel young to hear that.
Finally, I want to thank Julie Milks of the Urology department. You were there at each appointment through the years and when I was at CHEO for 25 days straight. You were there the morning after my painful shunt surgery. You stayed with my mom and me until I no longer had pain.
Thank you to my wonderful CHEO team. I will never ever forget you. I’m writing this message in English because I was unable to speak English with you at the time I met you. Now I can speak and understand the language properly. Thank you to all of you!
