Who We Are

CHEO is a pediatric health and research center providing outstanding family-centered patient care, pioneering breakthrough research, and training the health care professionals of tomorrow.

We have 165-beds and more than 180 doctors, 600 nurses and 1,500 additional staff dedicated to providing the best possible care for the children and youth of our community.

CHEO is one of only a few stand-alone pediatric hospitals in Canada, and sees more than 6,000 admissions, 7,000 surgeries and more than 60,000 emergency visits each year.

CHEO is one of a kind

What makes CHEO unique is both the type of care we provide and the passion with which we provide it.

CHEO acts as both a regional hospital for a broad geographic region and a center of excellence for complex and specialized care for kids with serious health conditions. We take great pride in both these roles, and apply a special blend of caring, innovation and high standards to every thing we do – whether it is removing a peanut from the ear of a four-year-old (let’s face it, it happens) or performing a complicated cardiac surgery. The staff and physicians at CHEO have helped very sick children at every stage of development – some children over-coming tremendous obstacles and surviving incredible odds.

Our specially-trained pediatric experts recognize that families are our partners, which is why we deliver family-centered care. Patients and families receive comprehensive treatment with the upmost respect to their unique needs and preferences. At CHEO, families are equal partners in the health care team. And we do everything we can to support them while they are at the hospital, ensuring they have access to the information they need, and are able to make informed decisions.
Our staff and physicians are passionate in their work – every day making it possible for kids to get healthy, stay healthy and thrive.
