CHEO's Volunteer Program
Thank you for expressing an interest in volunteering at CHEO.
Please note that our volunteer needs fluctuate through the year and as a result, our need for new recruits varies.
We have just brought on a big wave of new volunteers and are working to settle them in. As a result, we are not accepting new applications right now. We are hard at work developing new volunteer opportunities, and we encourage you to check back in the New Year. When opportunities do become available, we will post the e-application below.
How to Apply
Step 1: To express interest in volunteering at CHEO, you must read this Information Booklet
Step 2: complete the e-application form. Your contact information will be kept on file for one year. Many current CHEO volunteers keep their assignment for years, so the need for new recruits varies.
Step 3: You may be invited to attend a group interview.
Step 4: If you are selected to volunteer at CHEO, you will be required to supply the following documentation, at your own cost:
Step 5: You will also be required to attend a group orientation session. This is separate from any role-specific training that you will receive.
- Tuberculosis Testing: A 2-step TB skin test (2 injections, 2 examinations = 4 appointments), completed within the last 12 months. Candidates who test positive must submit the results of a negative chest x-ray report, completed within the last 5 years. A health care provider (family doctor, walk-in clinic, etc.) may assist you with obtaining a TB test. Immunizations: Proof of vaccination dates, or blood test results for Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella (Chicken Pox).
- Vulnerable Sector Check: CHEO can accept an existing Vulnerable Sector Check completed within the last two years. Should you need to obtain a new check a letter CHEO will provide a letter to waive the fee.
- References: Two professional references (not be family members or peers).
