Description:

The Methodologist II works to support and facilitate researcher using health administrative data, clinical data repositories and research datasets. He/she will have the opportunity to make a significant impact in the rapidly evolving area of integrated health data while in pursuit of the objectives of the Ontario Child Health SPOR Support Unit, a member of the pan-Canadian Strategy for Patient Oriented Research (SPOR) network.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

· Provide expertise and facilitate access to clinical and administrative data repositories such as those held by ICES (Institute for Clinical and Evaluative Studies), BORN Ontario, and others

· Establish and make available to researchers a working inventory of child health datasets in Ontario

· Assist researchers to design studies, construct analysis plans, address privacy issues, perform data linkage, de-identify data sets, and conduct and report data analyses including geospatial

· Participate in writing research grants, abstracts, presentations and scientific publications in the areas of maternal , newborn, child, and youth health with an emphasis on population health, health service delivery, and health policy

· Execute data validation programs and resolve data discrepancies on research datasets

· Identify and extract data from electronic health record (EHR) databases for approved research projects

· Assist in the development of strategies to leverage the research potential of CHEOs EHR, including data exploration to support grants, novel techniques for data linkage and use, study protocol development

· Ensure compliance with ICES, BORN Ontario, CHEO, and other relevant institutions’ privacy policies and guidelines

· Interact daily with team members to ensure timely delivery of all projects

· Educate researchers and promote the use of integrated research data using clinical and health administrative data repositories (ICES, BORN Ontario), electronic health records (EHR) and research datasets

· Perform work in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all CHEO and CHEO Research Institute corporate /departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· 2 years minimum hands-on experience applying bioinformatics methodology to analyse large clinical and administrative datasets (Essential)

· Master’s (or higher) degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics or equivalent (Essential)

· Ability to identify and apply methodology to analyze trends in disease and corresponding risk factors, contributory factors, incidence and prevalence rates, outcomes and other relevant measures of health and disease (Essential)

· Strong research, analytical and communication skills (Essential)

· Knowledge and competence in the methods and requirement for deterministic and probabilistic data linkage (Essential)

· Proficient with data management software and statistical analysis packages such as SAS (essential), SPSS, R or other statistical software and programming languages

· Knowledge of privacy legislation related to the use of personal health information for research and data sharing (Preferred)

· Assets:

o Knowledge of the principles of de-identification

o Experience with geospatial data analysis

o Grantsmanship experience

ADDITIONAL COMPETENCIES/SKILLS

· Police Record Check (Essential)

  • Ability to prioritize multiple competing projects; good time management skills (Essential)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (Essential)
  • Clinical health research experience (maternal-child) (Preferred)
  • Bilingual (French and English) (Preferred)
