THE ORGANIZATION
“One of the country’s premiere pediatric hospitals” – André Picard, Globe and Mail health writer
In October of 2016, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) and the Ottawa Children’s Treatment Centre (OCTC), two of the region’s largest providers of pediatric healthcare, joined forces as one organization to better meet the needs of children and families by creating a stronger organization with easier access to services and more coordinated care.
This new organization – still in its formative stages – brings together hospital, developmental and rehabilitation as a first step in leading transformational pediatric healthcare in the region and across the province. As both CHEO and OCTC already serve many of the same children and youth, it makes sense to champion and advance kids’ health together, with one voice. With combined revenues of over $280 million, CHEO-OCTC brings together more than 2,700 physicians and staff dedicated to providing the best possible care for the children, youth and families of the community. In addition to the clinical and service mandate, CHEO-OCTC is an academic health science centre providing education to 2,300 future pediatricians and students in nursing and other health professions each year. And the almost 200 researchers at the CHEO Research Institute conduct over $24 million worth of leading-edge pediatric research.
A leading partner in building an integrated pediatric health system for the region and province, CHEO-OCTC is finalizing its new strategic direction and confirming its mission, vision and values that will provide a framework for continued progress and a roadmap for future planning. With a focus on investing smartly in what is required, creating a learning healthcare system, and integrating children, youth and families it all that it does, CHEO-OCTC will unlock the potential of an innovated system and, ultimately, achieve health outcomes that matter and the best life for every child and youth.
Forward thinking and indeed trailblazing, CHEO-OCTC is a well-respected leader in its field with a strong reputation for innovative leadership and amazing stories of triumph. Mission-driven with a tremendous sense of unity and purpose, the organization has been ranked by Forbes as Canada’s top healthcare and social-sector employer for two years in a row.
