Job Title:Learning Specialist - BILINGUAL

Supervisor: Director of Organizational Development and Learning


The Learning Specialist creates, designs, and implements learning opportunities and strategies which support CHEO in achieving its vision, mission and strategic directions.. This includes conducting learning needs assessment and developing, delivering, implementing and evaluating learning in a variety of formats (including classroom and electronic). The Learning Specialist works as part of a team to contribute to the delivery of critical learning and development at CHEO. This includes:

§ Assessing learning needs for a broad range of learners across the organization

§ Researching and developing learning content which supports the organization’s goals and the creation of a culture of continuous improvement

§ Developing, implementing and/or evaluate tools and programs to support staff, physician and leadership in the organization to successfully demonstrate the LEADS competencies: leading self, engaging others, achieving results, developing coalitions and systems transformation

§ Delivering learning in a variety of modes, including classroom training and e-learning

§ Develop effective e-learning content using e-learning authoring software

§ Utilizing a learning management system to publish, promote and track learning events and activities

§ Working with teams to help them identify and address learning needs and improve team effectiveness

§ Offering organizational development consulting and facilitation services

§ Coaching leadership to support effective employee development and team operation

§ Facilitating team meetings, strategic planning sessions, or other team development activities

§ Identifying and implementing methods of evaluating learning to demonstrate measurable impact

§ Working effectively as part of a team of learning specialists, as well as the broader quality improvement and strategy teams, and with other educators in the hospital (e.g. nursing education and medical education)

§ Identify new and emerging practices in learning and development

§ Leading special projects that support the creation of an inspiring workplace (e.g. staff engagement surveys, updating performance management tools and processes)

§ Other related duties as requested


§ Police Record Check (PRC) (Essential)

§ College in a related discipline (Essential)

§ University degree in a related discipline (e.g. Human Resources, Adult Education, Organization Development) (Preferred)

§ Minimum three (3) years of related experience in adult education, facilitation and e-learning development (Essential)

§ Lean Green Belt certification or equivalent (Essential)

§ Experience leading quality improvement projects and other projects (Preferred)

§ Sound understanding of human performance, adult learning principles, organizational development, instructional
systems design and curriculum development

§ Strong communication and project management skills (Essential)

§ Strong consulting and internal customer service skills (Essential)

§ Familiar with current trends in the learning and organizational development field (Essential)

§ Proven facilitation and presentation experience (Essential)

  • A team player who can work collaboratively but is able to work independently (Essential)

§ Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products (Essential)

§ Experience developing and publishing e-learning using e-authoring tools (Essential)

§ Experience in utilizing learning management systems (Preferred)

§ Bilingualism (French / English) (Essential)
