About CHEO Advocacy

The CHEO Advocacy Committee, on behalf of the Board of Trustees, is mandated to advocate for public policies and programs that positively affect the health and wellbeing of children, youth and their families. CHEO believes that preventing illness and injury, thus avoiding the need for treatment, is the best prescription for the health and well being of children and youth. This approach is the foundation for all CHEO advocacy work, with particular emphasis on injury, obesity, mental health and family poverty. Studies have confirmed time and again that implementing strategies to address these root causes are highly effective in keeping kids healthy and happy.

About the “Let’s Keep Kids Out of Hospital” Awards Program

CHEO knows that many individuals, programs, organizations and businesses in the community we serve not only share our approach, but also make important contributions to addressing these root cause issues. The “Let’s Keep Kids Out of Hospital” Awards is a formal, annual program that was created to recognize initiatives that go “above and beyond” in addressing one of four root causes and in doing so raise awareness and inspire others.
