CHEO issues update on C. difficile

CHEO is now managing only two cases of C. difficile on its 4 North unit.

One new case was identified Thursday. This patient had been on 4 North when the original cases were identified. A person can carry the bacteria for some time before symptoms show up and they start to feel unwell.

It is not uncommon, even with only a small number of cases of C. difficile like here at CHEO, for additional cases to be confirmed over a period of time, even when all prevention methods and precautions have been implemented.

CHEO is taking the situation very seriously, using every precaution and going above and beyond ministry recommendations. We will keep the community informed with weekly updates. The next update will be provided on November 21st.
