CN Cycle for CHEO will continue as the Foundation’s Largest Cancer Fundraiser
OTTAWA – The CHEO Foundation announced today that CN — the iconic Canadian Railway company — has become the new title sponsor of the Hospital’s annual spring cycling event. The fundraiser will now be called CN Cycle for CHEO and will take place on Sunday, May 3, 2009. The CN Cycle for CHEO will continue to offer all of the family fun that participants have come to enjoy.

This event, which has operated under the name of Tour Nortel for the past 11 years, will continue to be hosted by Nortel.

CHEO Foundation President and CEO Fred Bartlett is thankful the two organizations are working together to help the kids. “Our Foundation is so pleased that CHEO’s largest outdoor fundraising event will continue to grow with the support our new partner, CN. The CN Cycle for CHEO will continue to signify hope for so many young people and their families and carry on the tremendous community tradition,” says Mr. Bartlett.

Mark Wallace, assistant vice-president, Public Affairs, CN says, “CN is delighted to partner with the Ottawa community in support of CHEO. At CN we are deeply committed to the strength of our communities by ensuring the health and safety of our youth. The CN Cycle for CHEO is an excellent opportunity for the Ottawa community to participate in improving the lives of our young people, our most precious resource.”

The new CN sponsorship agreement will ensure that 100% of every dollar raised by participants will continue to go to help kids with cancer.

Nortel has always been and will continue to be very active in both the organization and execution of the event. “Nortel and its employees have a special bond with CHEO and we are proud of the role we have played in raising more than $5 million dollars over the past 11 years. We look forward to serving as host for the CN Cycle for CHEO and providing our employees with an opportunity to maintain their commitment to helping CHEO and the families in our community who rely upon CHEO” says Samih Elhage, President, Carrier VoIP & Applications Solutions and Ottawa senior executive leader for Nortel.
