CHEO Welcomes New Chair to Board of Trustees

OTTAWA –Johanne Levesque — a local executive with more than twenty years of leadership experience in health, municipal and social services sectors -— has been elected chair of the board of trustees for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO).

CHEO held its Annual General Meeting June 9th, sharing financial results of the fiscal year ended March 31, 2009, as well as reports on the year's activities from Hospital leaders.

At the meeting, CHEO re-elected its current board members and elected its new slate of officers for 2009/2010, including Levesque as the new board chair.

Levesque began her career as a nurse at CHEO and, over the years, gained significant knowledge and expertise in areas related to strategy, leadership, governance, planning, partnerships and sustainable organization, and system change. In January 2009, Ms. Levesque joined the Executive Team of the Champlain Community Care Access Centre as the Senior Director of Strategic Planning and Integration.

Levesque has a Bachelor’s in Nursing Science from the University of Ottawa and a Masters of Public Administration from Queen’s University

“Our entire organization will benefit from the extensive and unique experience that Johanne Levesque brings to the table,” said Michel Bilodeau, president and chief executive officer, CHEO. “Johanne is a strong and passionate advocate for health of the children and youth in our community. We are very fortune to have her as the new leader of board of trustees.”

“It is truly an honor to be able to serve such a wonderful organization in this new capacity,” said Levesque. “Starting my career at CHEO served as the foundation for my understanding and appreciation of issues facing children, youth and their families. I look forward to working with my colleagues at the Board, the hospital staff and physicians, our extended CHEO family and all our system partners to improve the health of infants, children and youth that we serve."

Taking over for Levesque in the position of first vice-chair is current board member David Hill. Special thanks were extended to departing chair, David Egan, who will still remain on CHEO’s board of trustees and will chair the governance committee. Egan has been a dedicated member of CHEO’s board for more than 15 years.
