CHEO Appoints New Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
OTTAWA, January, 11, 2012 - The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) is pleased to announce the appointment of Nicholas Vlacholias as its new senior vice president and chief financial officer, effective March 19, 2012.

Vlacholias, 45, is currently the Chief Operating Officer at Cornwall Community Hospital. He has more than 15 years experience in hospital leadership, and is on the Board of Directors of Eastern Ontario Regional Laboratory Association (EORLA).

“Nick has earned a reputation in Cornwall and across the Champlain LHIN as a reliable leader who gets thing done,” said Alex Munter, CHEO’s president and chief executive officer. “He’s experienced, thorough and effective -- simply and seriously setting himself to a complex problem and finding a solution.”

Recently, Vlacholias managed the complex, contentious merger of two Cornwall hospitals, moving all staff and programs onto one site and redeveloping that site and while dealing with significant fiscal challenges.

“Nick will join recently appointed CEO Alex Munter on an already talented and experienced leadership team, bringing still more energy and enthusiasm for helping the children and families of this community,” said David Betts, chair of the Audit and Finance Committee of CHEO’s Board of Trustees, and member of the selection committee. “He’ll be an excellent fit and a great addition to the team.”

Vlacholias replaces Gerald Bisson who retired in December after five years at CHEO and decades working in Ontario hospitals. He’ll be responsible for master planning initiatives, along with operations for Finance, Materials Management, Facilities Management, Clinical Engineering, Food and Patient Services and Environmental Services.
