CHEO CEO honored with Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal
Ottawa, October 20 – The Board of Trustees of the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario is pleased to congratulate hospital executive Alex Munter who was awarded today the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal for his contributions to families of this community.

“For more than 20 years Alex has dedicated himself to improving health and social services in this community – advocating for a wide range of issues relating to children, youth and families such as day care, youth mental health, human rights and community-based services in both urban and rural areas,” said Ottawa Centre MP Paul Dewar who presented Munter, one of his constituents, with the medal today.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medals celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s 60-year reign by recognizing the lifetime contributions of Canadian citizens.

“Alex absolutely typifies the values that are at the core of CHEO – compassion, leadership, integrity,” said Johanne Levesque, chair of the CHEO Board of Trustees. “It is rewarding to see him honoured by others for the qualities we recognized in him last year at this time when we selected him to lead CHEO into the next phase of the organization’s important mission.”

“I feel very humbled and honoured to have been recognized in this way. I believe in community – I believe in the power of people coming together to build institutions and to help each other. All my life, I have been motivated by the desire to contribute to community and nowhere is the power of people working together more evident than at CHEO,” said Munter.

Recipients of the medal were chosen by a three-person committee which reviewed nominations that had been submitted to Mr. Dewar by residents of his riding. Mr. Dewar presented the medals on behalf of the Governor-General.
