CHEO Appoints New Vice President of People, Performance and Strategy
OTTAWA, November 15, 2012 – The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) is pleased to announce the appointment of Bruce Squires as its new vice president of People, Performance and Strategy, effective January 7, 2013.

Squires has more then 20 years experience in healthcare leadership and is currently the vice president of Corporate Affairs at the Canadian Medical Association.

This is a new role at CHEO, combining for the first time the human resources, planning and quality functions of the hospital.

“At CHEO, our people and our mission are intrinsically linked,” said Alex Munter, president and chief executive officer. “We want to take that strength and build on it – becoming the best CHEO we can be and supporting our staff, which is our greatest asset on that journey.”

“Bruce has excelled in this type of role before – leading the creation of CMA’s balanced scorecard and their move to being an outcomes-oriented organization. He will be a true champion for a high-performance culture that values people, patients and families,” said Munter.

“I’m excited to be joining an organization with not only such a history of success, but such an enthusiastic focus on the future,” said Squires. “CHEO has a distinct culture - defined both by its community and the people who work there. I’m proud to be part of that, and to be part of an organization that has made such a difference to children, youth and families in this region.”

Squires is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Management at Carleton University and teaching human resources at the undergraduate level.

In addition to leading the strategic planning and quality functions for the hospital, Squires will replace former vice president of Human Resources, Ginette Champagne, left CHEO earlier this summer after eight years of service.
