Canadian Institute of Child Health Hosts 15th Annual Crayons & Cravats Gala
Ottawa, ON – 19 November, 2012 – Ottawa’s Canadian Institute of Child Health “CICH” is celebrating National Child Day by hosting the 15th annual Crayons & Cravats Gala. The Institute will be honoring exceptional individuals who have been amazing advocates for child development, health and education.

Dr. Simon Davidson of the Children’s Hospital of Easter Ontario will receive the National Child Day Award for his outstanding contribution to child and youth mental health in Canada and internationally.

Tina Fedeski will receive the CICH Leadership Award for her driving commitment to the Leading Note Foundation.

Chelsea Edwards will receive the Dr. Graham Chance Award for her dedication to the campaign for equitable education on reserves.

WestJet Cares for Kids will receive the CICH Corporate Award for their generous partnerships with child and youth-serving organizations.

Ron Ensom, Joan Durrant and Corinne Robert Shaw will receive the Health Promotion & Innovation Award for their tenacious campaign against the physical punishment of children and youth.

The Crayons & Cravats Gala is held to honor the basic human rights of children, to recognize the people who dedicate themselves to furthering the well-being of children, and to raise child health awareness in the community. The Crayons & Cravats Gala is an evening filled with laughter, joy and inspiration.

The gala will be held on November 19th, from 5.30pm to 9.30pm, at the Hampton Inn and Conference Centre at 200 Coventry Road in Ottawa and will include a delectable dinner, music by the OrKidstra quartet, award presentations and a silent auction.


CICH is a national, charitable organization founded in 1977 to promote health and well being of all children and youth in Canada. The institute’s areas of focus are healthy child development, safe environments, monitoring child and youth well-being and advocating healthy pregnancies. CICH is responsible for initiatives that led to the implementation of mandatory child car seats, bike helmets, and family presence in delivery rooms.
