CHEO ranked top hospital in Ontario for inpatient pediatric care, 2nd year in a row

May 4, 2014, Ottawa — As thousands hit the streets to participate in the CN Cycle for CHEO, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) has been named the top hospital in Ontario for pediatric inpatient satisfaction for the second year in a row.

Compared to 26 other hospitals, CHEO had the highest ranking when pediatric patients and their parents were asked to indicate their overall satisfaction with inpatient care – according to the new released National Research Corporation Canada/Ontario Hospital Association’s patient ratings report.  The NRCC and the OHA based their report on patients who had an inpatient stay or emergency department visit between April 1, 2012 and March 31, 2013.

“This is happy news, and proof that we are heading in the right direction with CHEOnext, our action plan for changing how health care is delivered to kids and families in this region,” said Alex Munter, President and CEO of CHEO. “CHEO’s aim is to go from really good to really great by better connecting care for families and truly building an exceptional patient experience.  Each year we make changes, some small and some big, but collectively they are starting to have a big impact.”

CHEO helps more than 500,000 kids in Ontario each year.  It is the second largest hospital in the Champlain Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) and one of only a few stand-alone pediatric hospitals in Canada. CHEO’s specially-trained pediatric experts recognize families as partners and deliver family-centred care. Patients and families receive comprehensive treatment with the utmost respect to their unique needs and preferences.
