CHEO and OCDSB connect parents with health experts to talk about eating disorders
 
Ottawa, February 3, 2015 – In collaboration with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB), the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario is pleased to present a free information session for parents on the subject of eating disorders. It will take place on February 19th from 7:00 – 9:00 pm at Sir Robert Borden high school.

The information session will begin with a brief presentation on eating disorders, followed by a discussion by the panel of health experts. Audience members will have many opportunities to be heard – they can submit questions in writing at the event, or pre-submit questions online.

The panel discussion will be moderated by Dr. Tim Hogan.

Members of the panel will include:

Dr. Mark Norris: Dr. Mark Norris is an adolescent health physician who specializes in the assessment and treatment of youth with eating disorders. Dr. Norris is the current President of the Eating Disorders Association of Canada and is an Associate Professor at the University of Ottawa. He has presented extensively in the last decade at provincial, national and international meetings.

Dr. Clare Roscoe: Dr. Clare Roscoe is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, who specializes in the treatment of Eating Disorders. She completed medical school at Dalhousie University and trained in General Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. She went on to complete a fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children focusing on the treatment of Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders. Dr. Roscoe has worked at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa since 2004 and is the Psychiatric Director of the Eating Disorder Program at CHEO.

Kelly Spence: Kelly Spence is a Registered Dietitian who specializes in the treatment of Eating Disorders in the pediatric population. She completed her undergraduate training in both Kinesiology and Food and Nutrition at The University of Western Ontario. She went on to complete a graduate level Comprehensive Dietetic Internship at the Hospital for Sick Children followed by a degree in Education at the University of Ottawa. Kelly Spence has worked at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa since 2008 with the Research Institute and on the clinical side since 2010. She has worked in many different capacities while at CHEO and has now focused her energy on the treatment of Eating Disorders for the past 3 years. Kelly is also involved with the community partner for eating disorders, Hopewell, and has a very strong passion for advocacy in the prevention of eating disorders.
 
Dr. Kristin Schaub: Dr. Kristin Schaub is a School Psychologist at the Ottawa Carleton District School Board. She completed her graduate work at McGill University School Applied Child Psychology program where her research focused on non suicidal self-injury. She is currently a member of the Ottawa Carleton District School Board's Mental Health Consultation Team and is an ASIST trainer.
