CHEO honours Volunteer of the Year
OTTAWA, ONTARIO, May 21, 2015 – The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) is pleased to celebrate its Volunteer of the Year – Ann Lambert, pioneer of CHEO’s pet therapy program, who has brought comfort and healing to young patients for more than 12 years.
The award was presented at the CHEO Volunteer Association’s Annual General Meeting last night.
A retired teacher and grandmother, Lambert and her two beloved canine companions travel more than an hour each way for every shift they spend with CHEO patients. They always bring a little joy and cheer to help distract patients from their hospital stay – and motivate them to get out of bed, move around and interact with other patients.
This award, nominated by CHEO staff and presented each year by CHEO’s Volunteer Association, recognizes the contributions of outstanding CHEO volunteers whose contributions to the hospital, staff, patients and families stand out above others.
“Today we are celebrating Ann Lambert for her generous gift of time, comfort and care. Ann truly takes CHEO’s mission to heart and lives it each day – helping kids and families be their healthiest,” says CHEO President and CEO Alex Munter. “We also honour all of CHEO’s countless volunteers who have played a pivotal role for the hospital over the last 50 years.”

“Ann is an outstanding, reliable and ever-present volunteer – supporting staff, students, patients and families while also mentoring new volunteers. She truly exemplifies what being a volunteer at CHEO means,” says Susan Norquay, President of CHEO’s Volunteer Association.
The CHEO Volunteer Association was incorporated in 1999 with the mission to enhance the quality of care for patients and families by providing human and financial resources to the CHEO community and by supporting CHEO staff.
The CHEO Volunteer Association is encouraging all volunteers to celebrate with them during their 50th anniversary year. If you are a past CHEO volunteer who would like to be involved in upcoming celebrations this spring, please contact (613) 737-7600 x2752 or for more information about upcoming events.
