32nd Annual CHEO Telethon on CTV Ottawa Airs This Weekend
7 p.m. Saturday, June 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 7

June 1, 2015 – Ottawa, ON: This Saturday and Sunday we invite you to be a SuperHERO for CHEO during the CHEO Telethon on CTV. Watch, call and donate to help us raise funds that help the doctors, nurses, researchers and staff at CHEO care for our community’s most important asset, our children and youth.

The Telethon hosts will include CTV’s Graham Richardson, Carol Anne Meehan, JJ Clarke, Michael O’Byrne, Leanne Cusack, Patricia Boal, Lianne Laing, Sarah Freemark, Eric Longley and Stuntman Stu, as well as other local personalities including Kimothy Walker and Veronique Soucy. They will be joined by patients, hospital staff and volunteers to talk about CHEO and why community support is vital to our children’s hospital.

Once again, the theme of the CHEO Telethon taps into everyone’s inner child as organizers ask everyone to “Be a SuperHERO for CHEO!” Riding on last year’s proclamation by Mayor Jim Watson, this Friday, June 5th is “CHEO SuperHERO Day” in Ottawa and everyone is encouraged to dress as their favorite SuperHERO to spread the word about the CHEO Telethon this weekend.

The stage is now set for the 24 hour broadcast that will take viewers on a journey inside the walls of CHEO and the CHEO Research Institute. Through live interviews and videos, patients share their CHEO experiences and medical challenges and doctors, nurses, researchers and staff talk about the important work they do and how community support helps them provide the best care for our children and youth. The broadcast also provides an opportunity for major donors, corporations and special event organizers to make cheque presentations which represent their hard work, generosity and caring for the kids at CHEO.

This year we will be highlighting the stories of six families. From a young child with tumors in his brain and body, to patients dealing with cancer, cystic fibrosis and other ailments, you will be touched by the love these families have for their children and inspired by the incredible strength they find in one another during these trying times. You will also witness the trust these families put in the expert CHEO staff that care for their child.

Social media will once again be a big part of the CHEO Telethon and the “Be a Hero of CHEO” (#hero4cheo) is back. You can help us raise the TD Bank Hero-Meter by visiting CHEO’s Facebook and Twitter pages before midnight Friday, or visit our Supe-Yourself app at www.hero4cheo.com. If we can reach over 10,000 likes, shares, comments and tweets, TD Bank will donate $10,000 to the CHEO Foundation. Anyone who participates will be entered into a draw to win a box at the September 26th REBLACKS game.

This Friday during Be a SuperHERO for CHEO Day, share a SuperHERO selfie and you could win tickets to see Taylor Swift in concert! Dress up as your favorite SuperHERO, take a photo and share via Twitter or Facebook using the hashtag #hero4cheo. One lucky person will win two tickets to see Taylor Swift at the Canadian Tire Centre on July 6th courtesy of Northern Coast.

During the Telethon viewers can pledge their support by calling (613) 738-1450 or 1-888-738-1450 or by going on-line at www.cheofoundation.com. A webcast of the Telethon will be available on the CHEO Foundation web site.

Please be a SuperHERO for CHEO and join us on June 6th and 7th for the CHEO Telethon on CTV and give generously to your children’s hospital.
