Public Service Announcement: Family Day one of busiest days of the year in CHEO Emergency Department

On the Family Day long weekend, CHEO wishes to remind the community that this can be one of our busiest weekends in the Emergency Department. For families who are unable to wait until Tuesday to visit a family physician or walk-in clinic with their child, please arrive prepared for longer waits, particularly for less urgent conditions, and with things from home that will help your child stay comfortable.

February and March are typically the busiest months in CHEO’s Emergency Department because of the high rates of respiratory infections and viral illnesses. CHEO’s doctors say that most fever and cough in healthy, immunized children is from a virus and can be managed at home.

For more information, please visit our website for information on when to go to the Emergency Department and on how to choose wisely. If you do need to come in, check out this info from the CHEO Moms+Dads blog to help prepare you for your visit: http://cheomoms.com/health/i-have-to-go-to-cheo/.
