Programme D’évitement is a partnership between CHEO and the Ottawa French Public School Board. The program serves adolescents between the ages of 12 and 18 (grades 6 to 12) who are experiencing school attendance difficulties. Students who benefit from this service are often struggling with internalizing mental health issues that school resources are insufficient to meet their needs. The program has the resources to serve 12 students.
A plan is prepared in collaboration with the school based on the strengths and needs identified in the Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths 9CANS profile. The plan of care is individualized to meet the needs of the students. It also involves very specific strategies that the student and family agree upon to ensure their engagement in the process. The goal is to maintain the student in their current placement and avoid the need for more intrusive services. Length of stay is approximately three to six months.
