Our staff and doctors are committed to providing the very best care to the children and youth who come through the doors of our emergency department. In fact, we have been providing emergency care since 1974 and we see more than 60,000 kids a year
In October 2009 we opened a new, state-of-the-art, 22,500 square foot emergency room, a 50% increase over our previous space. The unit now features separate ambulance and patient walk-in entrances as well as a secure area for the care of mental health patients. The updated design allows for greater confidentiality and enhanced patient flow and triage system. Centrally located nursing stations allow the health care team to see all patient service areas. And there are three new, dedicated isolation rooms where children with certain infectious diseases can be cared for safely. These changes will help us to keep improving the care we provide.
CHEO’s emergency department is there for you when your child is very sick and in need of emergency treatment. It is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Hopefully you or your child will never need to pay a visit to our emergency department.
