What I need to know:

  • A minimum of once a week commitment is required, which is set for the same day and time every week, ranging from 2 to 4 hours, depending on the role
  • Because most patient programming happens during the day, we have a greater need for daytime volunteers.
  • Evening and week-end opportunities are limited
  • Many factors are considered when matching volunteers to a role, including your availability, interests, skills and how they match to our current available opportunities.
  • Because many of our opportunities offer interactions with clients, it is important that our volunteers be able to follow, give directions and to express oneself clearly and concisely in the English language. Additional languages are an asset.
  • Previous volunteer experience is always helpful.
  • All new volunteers attend a hospital orientation session, and CHEO staff will provide training and support.
  • Complimentary parking privileges are available to volunteers.
