CHEO volunteers represent a variety of backgrounds, from secondary school students to seniors and professionals. Volunteers bring their numerous talents to the hospital, and help create a supportive and friendly environment. Thousands of volunteer hours are contributed to the hospital each year.
Volunteers at CHEO gain valuable workplace skills, working alongside various healthcare professionals. This enhances previous team and professional experiences. It also provides insight for those considering a future career in healthcare.
Full-year Program: Adults, college and/or university students. Applications are accepted year-round.
Adults, college and university students can apply for the Full-year Program. The Full-year Program runs from September to June. Interested persons may submit an application and résumé, both of which will be kept on file.

Summer Program: High school, college and/or university students - We are no longer accepting candidates for Summer 2012, please come back in November of 2012 to apply for the 2013 summer session.
High school, college and university students can apply for the Summer Program. This program runs July to August for high school students and May to August for college and university students. Applicants must be at least 15 years old to apply.

High School Co-operative Education Program
CHEO welcomes the High School Co-operative Education Program. This program provides senior secondary school students with supervised out-of-school learning opportunities, and the occasion to earn credits while assisting students in making career decisions. The majority of students requesting a placement with CHEO aspire to pursue a career in the healthcare field, with the prospect of working with children.
Interested students are asked to contact the Co-operative Education Teacher in Student Services at their respective school.
Short term volunteer, group visits, group volunteering, job shadowing and entertaining patients
We appreciate your thoughtfulness in considering CHEO. Due to our infection control and prevention guidelines as well as patient safety and privacy, individuals or groups who wish to visit or entertain our patients, on a one time or short term basis, is not permitted.
