Information for Patients and Caregivers

We know being in the hospital can feel overwhelming. Your care team is here to support you and your child throughout your stay.

  • You know your child best. We encourage caregivers to share observations, ask questions, and participate in care.

  • Up to 2 people may be at bedside during the day.

  • 1 caregiver may stay overnight.

  • During peak viral season (November-March), visitors and children under 12 are not permitted. Caregivers are not considered visitors.  For more information, visit Peak Viral Season.

  • Please do not give your child any medications unless provided by a nurse.

  • Let the medical team know about any medications your child takes at home to ensure they are ordered during their stay.

  • 4E and 5E are secured units. A caregiver pass is required for entry.

  • One family pass is provided through Admitting (level 2, across from the coffee shop).

  • Private rooms are not available. Limited single rooms are reserved for patients requiring isolation.

  • If your child is on isolation precautions, your team will review any additional requirements with you, which will include limiting your movement around the unit.

  • Use the call bell at your bedside if you need assistance.

  • If leaving the room, let your nurse know and ensure your child can access the call bell.
