We understand that going to school full-time can be a challenge for autistic children and youth (up to 18 years old). CHEO’s School Support Services (SSS) offers behaviour consults and services to help increase student’s time at school. We work with caregivers and families to build skills at home, adding to the support schools provide to students.
Note: This service is separate and distinct from the Ontario Autism Program’s Entry to School Program.
School Support Services
Our School Support Services use evidence-based Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) strategies to address behavioural challenges that create barriers for ASD children and youth from attending school full-time. This results in absences, being late, being sent home early, or having an inconsistent school schedule. School Support Services are designed to assist with a variety of concerns, including:
- School refusal or reluctance to attend
- Difficulty with routines and activities of daily living
- Toileting and bathroom hygiene challenges
- Emotional dysregulation or inappropriate behaviour
- Transition struggles between home and school environments
- Loss or risk of losing school transportation services
If you are interested in this service, please contact 1call1click (1C1C)and one of our intake workers will help you determine whether School Support Services are a good fit for your child/youth, or if other support options may better meet their needs.

Our CHEO team of School Consultants will discuss strategies to create a positive first time school experience.

Delivered in collaboration with CHEO’s YouthNet, this workshop is delivered in middle schools and high schools. It aims to promote understanding and acceptance in the classroom while raising awareness of neurodiversity. These presentations are designed for students in grades 6+.
