On behalf of the CHEO Board of Directors, I am writing to inform you of an important transition within the leadership team at CHEO. As many of you know, Alex will be stepping down as President and CEO of CHEO, effective Oct. 8, 2024, after a remarkable 13 years. During this transition period, I am pleased to announce Dr. Lindy Samson will be stepping in as the interim President & CEO.
Dr. Samson, our Chief of Staff and Chief Medical Officer, has been a cornerstone of CHEO since 1998. Her dedication to our mission, coupled with her compassionate care and exceptional leadership, has had a profound impact on our organization and the many families we serve. Her deep understanding of our values and commitment to excellence makes her the ideal person to guide CHEO through this interim period.
Dr. Samson has extensive experience as both a physician and leader, and she shows an unwavering passion for patient care and the well-being of our staff, medical staff and learners. I know CHEO will continue to thrive and move forward seamlessly under her stewardship.
As part of this transition period, Dr. Jean-Philippe (JP) Vaccani, will assume the role of Acting Chief of Staff and Acting Chief Medical Officer. He has been on the CHEO team since 2003, was the Deputy Chief of staff and is now the Chief of the Department of Surgery.
Please join me in extending your full support to Dr. Samson and Dr. Vaccani as they take on these important roles during this transition.
As you might have seen on our public channels, as well as those of our search firm Boyden, the search for our permanent President & CEO is well underway.
Thank you for your continued dedication, hard work and shared commitment to providing outstanding care and support to children, youth and families.
Regards,
Jo-Anne Poirier
Chair, CHEO board of directors
