You may wish to ask your parent or caregiver to bring you some belongings for your stay at CHEO. To keep our space safe for everyone, front line staff will check all items and bags that patients and visitors bring on the unit. Staff will decide which items are OK and which items are not. For any questions or concerns, please reach out to your assigned staff or the unit Care Facilitator or Charge RN
Bring
Items that may be kept in your room:
- 2- 3 sets of casual, comfortable clothing (no spaghetti straps, short shorts/skirts/tops, clothing displaying explicit language or images)
- sleep wear (pajamas without strings)
- foot wear (shoes without laces, slippers, socks)
- personal toiletries (for example: brush, comb, toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, feminine hygiene products);
- activities like reading materials, writing paper, puzzle books, small hobby supplies (except sharp objects like scissors or sewing needles)
Items to be kept in your tuck (located in the office) and signed out when in use:
- headphones
- electronic chargers
- hygiene products (up to 5 items of makeup, no glass or mirrors)
- small-scale musical instruments (guitars permitted as largest instrument)
- personal DVD players and DVDs (Rated PG13 or less)
- music playing device without WiFi capabilities (no explicit language)
- 3-ring binders or notebooks with metal/plastic spiral spines
Do not bring
- blankets and pillows
- belts, clothing with ties or strings
- cell phones
- cameras, recording devices
- WIFI capable devices (cell phones, iPads, laptops, hand held gaming devices, etc...)
- electric appliances, like blow dryers, hair straighteners and radios
- yarn, knitting needles, gimp, embroidery floss, rainbow loom
- aerosol cans, body sprays, perfumes
- toiletry bags, pencil cases
- valuables, like jewellery or money
- sharp objects like razors, scissors, nail clippers, tweezers
- drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, lighters, matches, weapons
Please note that we are not responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged items. Please consider leaving all valuables at home. On admission you are assigned your room cubby, one office tuck and one unit locker. If your belongings exceed the space provided then we may ask you or your caregiver to take some belongings home.
