Unstoppable Emeric: using motivation and strength to fight cancer

Posted on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 03:24 PM

Meet Emeric, a 15-year-old who refuses to let anything stop him.

Emeric has an incredible love for outdoor activities and sports. He was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare type of cancer after coming into CHEO with severe leg pain. An MRI revealed a large tumour in his pelvis. He immediately started an intense chemotherapy regime followed by radiation. Emeric’s aggressive cancer treatment also included surgery to remove the left portion of his pelvis, significantly affecting his mobility. As...

Black History Month: Meet some of our team

Posted on Friday, February 03, 2023 09:14 AM

February is Black History Month, a time to honour, remember and learn about the contributions of Black people in Canadian society. This year, CHEO is celebrating Black History Month by focusing on Black Canadians in health care. Each week we feature stories of Black CHEO staff, giving a glimpse of their profession and what Black History means to them.

We hope to inspire everyone at CHEO to learn about the many contributions of Black Canadians to Canadian Society.

For instance, did you know: during World War I, Black women were denied the chance to participate in Canada’s war...

A moment for gratitude and stars, after 25 years

Posted on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 12:04 PM

There are stars of all kinds and CHEO helps make them — helps them find a way to shine.

At the beginning of October one of those stars, Julian, a CHEO oncology grad (as we like to say), returned to Ottawa with his family to thank all the people who cared for him and to thank CHEO. As did his father, John, who has just published a book about the family’s experiences with cancer, Only When It’s Dark Can We See the Stars. The family wanted to present the books to CHEO, at CHEO. They had lived...
