Back to SearchThe new CHEO Integrated Treatment Centre is one step closer to reality.
Construction of the new, fully accessible and state-of-the-art treatment centre began with a ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
The centre will provide integrated and coordinated care under one roof to better serve children and youth living with complex medical, developmental, behavioural, and mental health needs.
The new, state-of-the-art centre will merge several care locations spread across Ottawa to create one purpose-built site at CHEO’s main campus on Smyth Road. Once completed, it will better serve thousands of kids and their families.
The centre will also be connected to the main hospital building on Smyth Road in Ottawa, allowing for more convenient and connected care for children and their families.
CHEO reached this point thanks to families, youth, staff and medical staff who collaborated and provided feedback to improve the proposed design of several areas in the new building.
It’s a key part of CHEO’s ambitious 10-year plan to transform its Smyth campus to better meet the needs of children and youth today and in the future, which is supported by the CHEO Foundation’s Kids These Days campaign, the largest in CHEO’s history.
Construction of the new site, which will be about 200,000 square feet, is a multi-year project funded by the Ontario government and CHEO, with support from generous donors through the CHEO Foundation. It will be built by EllisDon Infrastructure OCH Inc with completion expected in 2028.
