OTTAWA — For the second year running, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) is ranked No. 1 among health-care and social-sector employers, moving into the Top 10 at position 10 on Forbes’ list of Canada’s Best Employers. CHEO joins Google, Ubisoft, NAV Canada and Toronto Hydro in the top 10 best places to work in Canada.

The Canada’s Best Employers list includes 300 companies and organizations from the private sector, government services, finance, education, telecommunications, health care and more. Notably, CHEO is ahead of some of the largest employers in the world, including Apple and Microsoft.

To compile the list, Forbes worked closely with Statista, an online statistics provider, and received input from 8,000 Canadian workers. Those surveyed were asked how likely they were to recommend their employer to someone else, as well as how they felt about other employers in their industry. The employees who took part in the survey were consulted anonymously through several online access panels, not through their employers. Data was recorded this past September. According to Forbes’ website, the list includes 300 employers across 25 industries, from corporate giants to universities and government agencies, where employees feel at home.

“What makes working at CHEO so great is that everyone here genuinely wants to make a difference in the lives of the kids and families we serve. People here walk the talk,” said Alex Munter, President and CEO of CHEO and Ottawa Children’s Treatment Centre. “We may be from different backgrounds and we may be of different professions, but we are all singularly committed to our mission to improve the health of children.”

CHEO was also named one of the National Capital Region’s Top Employers for 2016 for the fourth year in a row, as part of an annual competition organized by MediaCorp Canada Inc. In 2014, CHEO was named one of Canada’s 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures by Waterstone Human Capital. Waterstone singled out CHEO’s patient experience ratings and employee/physician engagement scores, which have routinely been among the highest in Ontario.
