Earlier today, 215 orange ribbons were attached to trees in CHEO’s Butterfly Garden, our special memorial garden for children who have died. In this way, the CHEO community honours the lives of the 215 children whose bodies were found in a mass grave at the Kamloops residential school. We express sadness and solidarity with their families, communities and the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation.
As a child-serving organization, CHEO acknowledges the legacy and the ongoing intergenerational impacts of residential schools on the health and well-being of Indigenous families and children today; and commits to working towards the best health outcomes for Indigenous children and families.
