November 24, 2022 — OTTAWA — An important milestone was recently reached in CHEO’s 1Door4Care project. The government of Ontario released the request for proposals (RFP) to three prequalified teams to prepare their bids to construct the new integrated children’s treatment centre that will serve children and youth in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec.

“Providing a seamless and integrated experience for kids and their families has become a critical mission here at CHEO. We need to make sure that CHEO is their one-stop health-care center where physical, developmental or mental health care can be provided under one roof,” said Alex Munter, President and CEO, CHEO. “This RFP process is one step closer to making this dream a reality.”

1Door4Care will merge seven locations from across the region into one state-of-the-art children’s treatment centre on CHEO’s main campus on Smyth Road. The goal is to improve how care is delivered and make it easier for patients and their families to have access to all the care they need at the same address.

About 1Door4Care

1Door4Care will be a brand new state-of-the-art, purpose-built children’s treatment centre located on CHEO’s main campus on Smyth Road. Merging seven care locations from across the region, the 1Door4Care building will enable CHEO and its partners in the new space to improve how care is delivered, directly helping 40,000 children and youth with complex physical, behavioural and/or mental health needs. The new building will include multi-use clinic space, state-of-the-art treatment rooms, enhanced mental health clinics, therapeutic gyms and outdoor terraces, advanced technology, a physical link to the main building on campus and family support spaces. 1Door4Care will seamlessly connect and integrate care across services and programs, so families never have to repeat their story. Being integrated into one building on CHEO’s main campus means families will also have easy access to emergency care, security, food services and more. 1Door4Care will be a partnership between CHEO and families, getting us one step closer to providing the best life for every child and youth.
