Teens and families helped identify site’s new features
OTTAWA, ON – Today, CHEO unveiled its new bilingual website (www.cheo.on.ca), a collaborative effort between youth, families, staff and physicians who worked together to deliver a website that is clean and bright, easy to use and helpful.
The new site is mobile-friendly, which means its webpages automatically adapt and re-size to fit the screen of whatever device a visitor is using. It is also compliant with Ontario accessibility laws and uses best practices for ensuring that people can access CHEO’s information online using adaptive technologies.
“Our new website was built using advice we got directly from youth and families. We made this project a priority because both families and frontline staff wanted our website to better meet their information needs,” said Adrienne Vienneau, chief communications officer at CHEO. “It’s really rewarding to see everyone’s suggestions put into action.”
CHEO’s website includes a number of new elements, most of which were brought forward during consultations with youth and families, including:
- the ability to translate webpages into over 100 different languages
- a blog with functionality allowing anyone to comment on stories
- information resources for families and caregivers in one master list, including recommendations for books, apps, videos and more
- a “find your doctor” directory that will grow over time
- updated floor maps of the main campus that highlight specific things, such as washrooms with change tables, accessible parking and meeting rooms
- multiple ways to “share your voice,” whether you want to become an advisor, participate in a focus group or volunteer in a department
- the ability to subscribe to a specific page, so you get the latest updates sent to you
“We welcome feedback on our new website,” continued Vienneau. “As with any launch of something new, we will continually improve and add new content on a regular basis. We’re always looking for story ideas too, so if someone at CHEO has changed your life or that of your child or teen – please let us know!”
CHEO’s website was designed and built by e-Solutions Group. It is populated and managed by the CHEO Communications team.
