CHEO is ready for and actively monitoring the evolving situation with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

CHEO does not have any cases of COVID-19.

If you have any questions about COVID-19, your first point of contact should be Ottawa Public Health

Latest COVID-19 updates from CHEO

What are we doing?

CHEO staff are actively screening all patients. Recent travel history or exposure to sick travellers, along with new symptoms of illness, help us quickly identify children and youth who may have the virus. Anyone who screens positive for possible exposure to the virus will be placed on additional precautions and evaluated further to determine if testing is required.

Our Infection Prevention and Control team is in close contact with Ottawa Public Health and other agencies to help guide decision-making and receive updates on the virus.

What if you have just returned from travelling?

If you or someone close to you have just returned from China:

  • Please consult “If I recently travelled outside of Canada, when should I contact a doctor, Ottawa Public Health or a health care professional?” on Ottawa Public Health’s Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) webpage.

What if you think you may have the novel coronavirus

If you suspect your child or youth has the novel coronavirus:

  • Consult “If I recently travelled outside of Canada, when should I contact a doctor, Ottawa Public Health or a health care professional?” on Ottawa Public Health’s Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) webpage.

If you do come to CHEO`s Emergency Department:

  • Wash your hands with hand sanitizer.
  • Put on masks when you arrive.
  • Let the triage nurse know about any recent travel, including travel of those close to you.

Symptoms to watch for:

  • fever
  • cough
  • difficulty breathing

Information for patients

If you have a clinic appointment, test or other procedure scheduled, and have any of the symptoms above, please call your clinic or care team to see if you should still come to CHEO.

It is important that you let your care team know about any recent travel, including travel of those close to you.

Find a list of all our clinics, programs and services

Information for hospital visitors

Please do not visit friends or family who are in the hospital if you feel ill or have any symptoms of a respiratory virus.

More information on visiting CHEO can be found on our Visiting hours and policies page.
