Your child may have received specific recommendations for services or resources as part of the assessment. It is important to follow through with recommendations made by the health care professional who conducted the assessment in order to maximize opportunities for your child.

Please note, we do our best to ensure this list is up-to-date and covers most publicly funded resources in a region. A social worker or case manager can work with you to ensure your family is accessing the supports you need.

Autism Spectrum Disorder

CHEO services

CHEO Autism services

CHEO offers a range of services for all children, youth and families living in Ontario with a diagnosis of Autism. Supports like Foundational Family Services, Social Skills Groups and Parent Resources are available free of charge. New topics and dates are regularly added. To learn more, join the mailing list or register, visit our Autism services page or 613 737 7600 ext. 7770.

Nutrition

Assessment and consultation sessions to address nutritional concerns. If there is a need for nutrition services at time of referral to the Development and Rehabilitation program at CHEO, children are placed on the wait-list for this service. To confirm your child is on the wait-list, please contact the Development and Rehabilitation program Smyth site at 613-737-0871 extension 4330.

Community resources

Ontario Autism Program

To register for the Ontario Autism Program the parent must call the toll free
number: 1-888-444-4530 or email. Visit the Ministry website for more information.

Speech and Language Therapy

Assessment and treatment to address the child’s communication needs offered by Words in Bloom (Eastern Health Unit). For information or referral contact 613-933-1375 or 1-800-267-7120 or consult the Eastern Health Unit website.

For school age children: Service offered by the School Board speech and language
therapy services.

Occupational Therapy

Assessment and treatment for fine motor and play skills, activities of daily living as well as sensory needs offered by the Children’s Rehabilitation Program of Eastern Ontario located in Hawkesbury. For information or referral call: 613-632-1111 or consult the Hawkesbury General Hospital website.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is offered by the Children’s Rehabilitation Program of Eastern Ontario located in Hawkesbury. For information or referral call: 613-632-1111 or consult the Hawkesbury General Hospital website.

For school age children: Referral to School-based Rehabilitation Services – CHEO.

Valoris for Children and Adults of Prescott-Russell

Services such as early intervention, respite and case management for children with developmental delays or disabilities. For more information or referral call: 1-800-675-6168 or consult the Valoris website.

Inclusive Services for Children with Special Needs

Support to Child Care Centres and the Prescott and Russell Licensed Home Child Care Agency. The Inclusion Services promote integration and inclusion of children with special needs. For more information: 613-764-3434 (Casselman) or 613-675-4642 (L’Orignal).

Early Learning and Child Care

Social and learning environment for children. For information on child care services, consult the Prescott and Russell website.

Ontario Early Years Center

Ontario Early Years Centres offer free programs for children up to the age of six and their parents and caregivers. Information about child development and other services is also available. Parents can call 613-764-3434 extension 221.

Financial resources

Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities

Funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services. Will cover extraordinary costs that parents incur due to their child’s special needs, including developmental programming or parent relief. Based on family income. Tel: 613-788-2399 or consult the Ministry's website.

Special Services at Home

Funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services. Will fund parents to cover the cost of developmental programming and/or parent relief. Tel: 613-787-4064 or consult the Ministry's website.

Disability Tax Credit

For families who have a child with a long term disability that affects activities of daily living. Certificate needs to be completed by a qualified professional. Canada Revenue Agency.Tel: 1-800-959-8281 or consult the CRA's website.

Incontinence Grant

Provides a grant to parents when a child is not toilet trained after the age of three. Funded by the Ministry of Health and administered through the Easter Seals Society. Tel: 416-226-3051 or 1-800-561-4313 or consult the Easter Seals website.
